Balls and Summer Houses 12+

Guided gathering in a lecture format

Summer leisure of 19th-century townspeople is impossible to imagine without a dacha. Leisurely tea drinking in the shade of tall pine trees, an evening gramophone on the veranda, and, of course, making jam!

Or perhaps it was quite the opposite? Card games, walks with other men’s wives, gossip, and shared swimming! How was it really? We invite you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of summer retreats and discuss dacha gossip, country life traditions, and the subtleties of high-society etiquette.

During the meeting, you will discuss:
• who a “dacha husband” was
• ants, frogs, and beetles as original tools of flirting
• bathing machines and fashionable swimwear
• dacha fashion and the fashion for sports
• “how to organize a ball with ease”
• how not to get confused among suitors
• the language of handkerchiefs, flowers, and fans
• amusing incidents with ball gowns
• what was hidden in a lady’s handbag
• duels and the code of honor
